Easy Rider – the way to go!
Hi there,
I just came back from an incredible trip to Vietnam. As we only had two weeks we decided to concentrate on Central Vietnam.
Our trip: Saigon – Flight to Hue (rent a bicycle in Hue to visit the tombes, it’s awsome!)
Hue – Hoi An
Hoi An – Kon Tum – Buon Ma tot – lac Lake – Dalat – Natrang on the back of a motorbike
Natrang – night train to Saigon and local bus to Vinh Long in the Mekong Delta.
Vinh Long – Can Tho
Can Tho – Saigon
I just wanted to say that if you really want to see Vietnam, you should definetely go to the Central Highlands.
You will not only find Stunning landscapes (jungle, mountains, waterfalls, forest) but also experience ‘life’ in Vietnam.
Travelling through the Highlands, you travel through history, seeing the Agent Orange areas, all the minorities who played an important role in the Vietnam war and parts of the old Ho Chi Min Trail.
You travel from jungle through plantations of rubber, coffee and pepper. This is NOT boring as sort of written in the LP, but VERY interesting. This is how people make a living, there is so much to see on the road, people trading and travelling etc. From Buon Ma Tot to Lac Lake and Dalat you will find yourself in beautiful scenery again and the trip from Dalat to Natrang along a new road through the mountains followed by beautiful green lush valleys is amazing aswell. As most sites to see are along the way, the best way to experience this area is with an Easy Rider, who can sshow you the back roads, local food, history, and can tell you all about the minorities and Vietnamese culture.
Our 6 day trip was dazzling, so much we have seen and learnt.
Watch out though, if you are looking for an easy rider in Dalat, you have to be carefull as many photocopy their papers. We went with Mr. Chau from Hoi An and were very lucky meeting him. There are only two easy riders in Hoi An but you can contact Mr Chau as he has got his own website.
It’s USD $50 a day including very good accomodation. If you like, you can meet up with him for the most delicious dinners in local places every night that you would never have found by yourself.
We were with two of us, so with Mr Chau and his other rider Mr Huang. Both riding very safely, no speeding, and anticipate on every chicken crossing the roads.
If you have time enough you can go by local bus, but the cities the buses stop are actually not were you want to be, it’s the journey that counts and the of the road waterfalls and villages.
